When friends notice it I’ll just say I have acne. People more Kehpoh (like Ah Ho) asked me during the last gathering “then why it got ‘pattern’ one…?”….oh well…

Basically it’s some kind of skin condition, either an allergic reaction or some kind of fungus/yeast infection. From what I read, it is very harmless but incredibly visible. The doctor gave some steroid cream to apply, but I try to limit it as much as possible because I don’t want too much contact with those kinds of substances.

The best way to describe how it looks is that it resembles the big flakes of skin coming from dandruff. In fact, I heard that dandruff is also a ‘version’ of this disease…imagine my whole face flaking with dandruff!

I just want to write something here because the blog has been lying there, dormant (again).It’s going to be the end of July and life has been in routine mode (again). I’m trying to find some inspiration….anything to do. I’ll just simply write what’s on my mind.

Creation

Before anything appears in the real world, it is first created in our minds. Don’t underestimate its power. What you think about all the time (whether it is positive or negative) is EXACTLY what you will experience.

This means that the life that you are now living in is a creation of what you have been thinking in the past. And the life of the future would also correspond to what you think you would be like right now.

If life sucks right now…isn’t it what I have been thinking about?

Objective thinking is a very typical way of thinking, it is ‘scientific’ thinking. It assumes that the laws of the world are static…non-changing, and that everything depends on ‘observation’.

If you think more subjectively, you’ll notice that you are also a CREATOR. The thoughts in the mind are constantly causing the things around you to CHANGE, and thereafter you EXPERIENCE it.

So, if I create a very ‘sucky’ environment, that is what I will experience. But for most of us, it’s always ‘others’ and ‘random events’ that causes the problems, isn’t it?

Having stayed in Batu Pahat for around 12 years, I regard the place as a nice simple town to live in. Life was pretty quiet and there weren’t so many ‘city-stuff’ things to be found.

I remember during the uni days where my friends would complain of ‘few places’ to visit in BP. In fact, the only place anyone can think about going was Summit…hence seeing KUiTTHO folks there all the time. During my first year in uni, uni friends were mostly just trying to adapt and hang out at ‘usual’ places.

What a difference three years has made. Right now Wira Court has closed down, but two new malls – Square One and Batu Pahat Mall have opened up. There are now Carrefour and Pacific instead of just The Store and Wellward…

There are also two Old Town coffee shops, a standalone McDonalds, and many smaller coffee places to hang out at night. There are also new cinemas providing ~15 new screens as opposed to just 3 in Summit.

KUiTTHO itself has turned into UTHM, and I think the new developments there will surprise the ‘seniors’ (like us) who lived through the ‘growing up’ stage of the uni.

Right now here in Penang, there are more places to go, but the ‘feeling’ is just so different…..really makes me feel like going back to the good old, naive, and fun days.

Back in the good ol’ school days our purpose is simple: study hard, do the best you can and walla! You can use your spare time to fool around with friends, do crazy stuff, or engage in hobbies, sports, etc. The ‘ultimate’ target was to get into a good job and start earning money

I hear that people feel enthusiastic when starting up in the ‘real world’ and finally being independent and earning their own money.

… before you know it your waistline is bigger and kids nagging left and right. Whereas previous concerns were of knowing which pub to visit, where’s the next meet up for DotA, or what’s the next hill to climb, you now focus primarily on groceries, loan repayments, and reading primary school textbooks to your children. For some people, they might be already considering ‘personal friends‘. :-p

The Success Paradox

I personally put the paradox of success to losing your direction. There are also some other reasons as stated here.

I know financial success is a great goal for many people, but for me it just feels so empty and impermanent. Here’s a thought experiment I made: I get RM2 million…. I bring out my flashy car every day to show off to people? I go and support 2 personal friends? What kind of friends will I be having? Unless all your buddies become millionaires in tandem, I don’t see how we could have authentic friendships then.

Now, feeling empty about being rich is totally different from financial security. Secure finances for daily living and having a storehouse for the future is an important aspect of life. And if financial security is ‘easy’, then we miss all the fun and personal growth that comes along with it.

So where do I go? Find some religious thought to be attached with? Speaking of religion, the good the bad and all, there’s something in many of them that makes sense: lasting peaceful serenity in the present.

If the US were to have a realistic recovery, it would need to cut its bloated service economy and consumer spending (from 70% to below 50%). Since this correction implies a massive recession,  I doubt that politicians would allow that, so expect the printing presses to be working overtime.

It would be interesting to see how things pan out. If too much new money needs to be created to stop the ‘deflationary’ pressures, then a tsunami of inflation will wash to our shores as soon as mass lending starts.

I doubt that Keynesian policies would work. It didn’t work in the 1970s, it didn’t work in Japan in 1990s, and it will prove a failure now. Sadly, most people are still celebrating and implementing it despite all its failures.

As mentioned earlier, I’ve decided to make this blog a bit more boring with words rather than photographs. Maybe I’ll get more readers, maybe I’ll get more geeks, but it’s a personal blog anyways…

The most messy part of blogging for me is in updating the photographs. I think it would be more convinient that I update my photographs on Facebook instead. I could then use the blog space here to do more ‘writing’…

I wish him all the best in his studies and have more fun (and beer) during his transfer stint in Germany.
